Heartbroken Hong Kong Residents in Disbelief as Massive Blaze Ravages Apartment Buildings

"Approaching the location, the heat rises and you can feel it, with the smoke being extremely heavy."

Young scholar an eyewitness was among the countless people gathered at the location of a tragic fire that swept through significant parts of the eight-building Wang Fuk Court in the region's Tai Po area.

At least 36 people have died in the recent destructive fire to date, with many still missing, indicating that this number will probably grow.

"We're facing a tragedy," the witness stated about the incident, adding that he had observed a victim being removed from the scene.

Over a thousand further residents were forced to vacate the estate as the flames spread, with many heading to temporary facilities that have been set up to house them.

The blaze is progressively being controlled, but officials report they cannot determine when it will be entirely put out.

Flames could be witnessed coming from individual homes as countless people looked on in quiet.

One local woman explained that her neighbors live inside the structure and she was waiting to discover if they managed to get out.
