Heartbroken Hong Kong Residents in Disbelief as Massive Blaze Ravages Apartment Buildings

"Approaching the location, the heat rises and you can feel it, with the smoke being extremely heavy."

Young scholar an eyewitness was among the countless people gathered at the location of a tragic fire that swept through significant parts of the eight-building Wang Fuk Court in the region's Tai Po area.

At least 36 people have died in the recent destructive fire to date, with many still missing, indicating that this number will probably grow.

"We're facing a tragedy," the witness stated about the incident, adding that he had observed a victim being removed from the scene.

Over a thousand further residents were forced to vacate the estate as the flames spread, with many heading to temporary facilities that have been set up to house them.

The blaze is progressively being controlled, but officials report they cannot determine when it will be entirely put out.

Flames could be witnessed coming from individual homes as countless people looked on in quiet.

"I am overwhelmed. The building contains so many neighbours and acquaintances. I have no idea what is going on any longer. Observe, all the homes are just burning. I am unsure what to achieve. I wish the local administration can assist us to find stability after this."

One local woman explained that her neighbors live inside the structure and she was waiting to discover if they managed to get out.

A long-term resident, who has dwelled in block two of the Wang Fuk Court for in excess of forty years, recalled listening to "a tremendous explosion" and seeing blaze ignite in a adjacent structure.

"I immediately went to my apartment to gather my things," the 66-year-old occupant stated.
